Female Veteran launches women-specific tactical clothing company to fill gap in male-oriented industry

Elko County, NV, November 13, 2019—KADRI Clothing recently announced the launch of its apparel line designed specifically for the adventure-tactical woman.

The female veteran-owned company was founded by two women who served in special operations units. Their experience, specifically the lack of functional clothes available in women sizes, led them to create their own company.

“We wanted to design clothing that we never had in order to help the next generation of trailblazing women succeed,” KADRI co-founder, Katheryn Basso said. “In our line of work, we either had men’s functional clothes that didn’t fit, or women’s clothes that had little function. Now, our focus is to create women’s clothes with practical function, proper fit and durable design.”

Their first product, the Valkyrie Field Pant, a nylon/spandex-blend pant with 11 functional pockets, utilizes the WHVR Matrix™ sizing system. This revolutionary system allows women to choose their waist size and up to two sizes larger in their hips. These options, combined with three available inseams, creates 72 possible sizing combinations, enabling women to purchase pants specifically designed for their unique body type.

While the adventure-tactical industry, which KADRI defines as everything from the explorer and hiker to those who serve in law enforcement and military, are made up of predominately men, a social shift is occurring.  A 2016 report by Outdoor Foundation showed women between the ages of 18-24 account for the fastest growing demographic of outdoor enthusiasts. Additionally, there are more than 8 million women in shooting sports alone. 

“We have a unique perspective on the functional and fit needs of our customers because we are these women,” Katheryn Basso said. “After waiting for years for the tactical apparel industry to respond to the rise in demand for proper women’s clothes, we thought, ‘Well, we might as well do it ourselves.’”
